Fiercer Than Lady Gaga

SPECIAL GUEST

Tonight on our show we have a special guest! The fanatical, impervious Leslie Halverson! (adjectives provided by Allie Thome).

Bitches be Bitches, and Haters gonn' Hate.

Aaaaannnd here is today's Feelings with Darrin:

Don't mess with Darrin today. He's got a mustache, slicked back hair, and a killer stink eye and is not afraid to use them. He also doesn't understand where they came from.

Sassy Feature

This belongs on my Sassy Person's blog, but I'm too lazy to update that blog at the moment. Basically, Kat Graham is fierce.

Also, you may have noticed that while I might not listen to this music, I have a slight obsession with pop culture.

Also, Allie and I have a great show in store for you this week! There will be plenty of good new music, possibly a theme(!), and definitely some more Dostoevsky.

Upcoming Campaign and stuff

I found this over at grandtheftthrift and couldn't resist reposting

Also here's a sneak peek at our upcoming campaign!

And today's Feelings with Darrin:

Darrin has a lot of work to do and is very busy. Best not disturb him.

Ra Ra Riot - Can You Tell

Love this song.

October 15, 2010

So I've decided that all of my feelings can be expressed through Bewitched screen captures...

This is how Darrin feels after staying up all night working.

In A Rut

Lately I feel like I've been stuck in a rut, lifewise. But feelings have no place on this blog. Instead I'll post a video.

This Is The Last Britney Post, I Promise

So after posting last night, I proceeded to watch a few of Britney Spears' music videos out of curiosity.
It explained a lot of things in the Brittany/Britney Glee episode that I missed/didn't get. I think Glee did a good job of playing tribute to her music/music videos (actually I think they might have done better than the originals in this case).

So, let's take a look at a few:

So we get that this is where the red leather jumpsuit comes in. Also it's kind of different from some of the other Britney Spears music videos - giving off a "cute" vibe rather than trying to be sexy. I have no idea what's going on in this video. Man lands on Mars and weird Mars Girl chains him up and sings and then they have a confusing dialogue at the end. Ok. It may be one of the strangest things I have ever seen. It's kind of great. I'm really into the groovin' scientists. On a side note, I was kind of disappointed that Glee didn't perform that song - I feel like it's kind of a Britney Spears' staple.

Seeing the Glee version of this song, I initially thought it was one of the worst they selected and was dissappointed in Lea Michelle's (Rachel's) performance of this song. I mean, what was going on with the big forlorn puppy eyes and thirteen-year-old attitude? And then I saw the video. Oh. That's what. I now think that Glee did a pretty good job on that song, and that this music video is just... special. I think the pink fuzzy things in Britney's hair are hilarious. I hope kids actually wore those and thought they were cool. Also in both this version of the song and the Glee version some of the back up dancers have intense abs. Seriously, look. It's insane.

I like when Britney overacts, but mostly I was not into this video at all.

The Glee version of this song was probably my favorite of the episode. I like Britney's dancing in this one, but Madonna was kind of "meh".

That's all! And if you've actually made it to the end of this post, congrats.

Britney vs. Gaga

Two screen shots I took (I am totally writing my essay right now... not).

"I petted a snake" "Rock on"

Yeah, Yeah, Too Many Posts Tonight, Too Much Pop Culture, BLAH BLAH BLAH
Deal with it?

So Brittany has always been my favorite character on Glee for her awkward/hilarious one-liners, and intense dance moves and have been wanting to see a Brittany-focused episode for quite some time. So when I found out over the summer that they would be making a Brittany/Britney Episode, I was thrilled. And it did not dissapoint (Britney Spears! John Stamos! It's just like the '90s are happening all over again).

Yeah, the episode was more than a little contrived and definitely disregarded plot to focus on the music, but I am OK with that! Especially since the music was so good in this episode. AND OH MY GOD THE DANCING. So great.

Keep in mind, I did not listen to Britney Spears in the '90s so I'm not as familiar with her music as I feel that I should be given my generation, but I was still able to watch this episode with fondness. It was great.

So basically I can't stop watching the episode.  Thank you Hulu.com for addictions (and for posting the complete Bewitched series, that's pretty cool of you). (All sources Hulu.com)

(I love Mr. Schu's little leap in the last video! But the audience is super annoying in that one *sigh)

Please Say No.

I'm feeling really hipster right now and it's really getting me down. Someone make it stop!

And this website is not helping. But it is hilarious.

It's very interesting to me to learn about popular music in other countries, specifically in Russia (*cough* Russian major *cough*) and I was recently introduced to this Russian music video. I think that the song and the video are very beautiful. It's performed by two Russian groups, Basta (Баста) - the rapper - and Gorod 312 (Город 312) - the vocalist. It's not very often that I get to hear what people are listening to in other countries. It was also interesting to compare this song to some popular American songs and see the differences in themes and imagery! I love how they use the sand artist and transform his images into backgrounds for the video. The song also provokes emotion - something that many pop songs don't do (or if they do, they often pull and twist the strings of cliche emotional themes and fail to actually evoke feelings within the listener - in my opinion). I loved this song/video, even though it is not in a format I might stereotypically like or be drawn to. I found power in the film and passion in the music and I can't wait to be introduced to more popular Russian songs.

To apply the knowledge I've gained thus far in Intermediate Russian: Это видео взял меня на сердце.
(Applying Russian idioms for the win?)

The lyrics of the song translate (awkwardly because I used an online translation and Russian doesn't always translate into English very fluidly - but seriously thanks, google translate!) to:
Slowly drift cars
Or stranded tube for miles
Mobile lazily skips calls
According to the desired number, alas - long beeps
The proximity reveals the secrets of strangers souls
Who knows mine - please answer
Suppresses the city noise - I'm suffocating
Flying weakness, wrapping the sail
They do not know me - I learned how to conceal
Themselves from the eyes of openness opens notebook
Muse is tired of congestion
Issued instead of bright patterns yuzanny trash
When there are no forces to be persistent
When all that has been building rubble, debris
When the spit that out there for windows
And you want to run away from everything - but nothing happens
Anyone who can help - out of reach
I am in the center of the city, both on the brink
And you want to scream around in spite of
Save me - I did not get up without your hands!

Turn around, I did not get up without your hands
Not hear the heartbeat
Turn around, I did not get up without your hands
The cold wind does not get warm
Turn around ...

Among the millions of people all alone
Night flow into days, changing calendars
Instead of help to those who got involved
We pass by hiding themselves under the make-up
Labyrinth drives people to a standstill
Urban anguish in the compartments of the pyramids of concrete slabs
All this is well mounted clip
Final obvious, but nothing changed
Posting online avatars and funny nickname
Simulated parallel illusory world
He did not blunt the evening went on the air
She removed the flaring up yourself by clicking delete
All of this canvas by Salvador Dali
Looking for answers outside, but the answers inside
There is nobody to blame - a mad trip
Wait, that someone would call and ask:
Well, how old are you?
Past people, past shop windows in the dust
Past someone as lonely as you
Be able to hear the strangled cry:
Turn around, I did not get up without your hands ...

Turn around, I did not get up without your hands
Not hear the heartbeat
Turn around, I did not get up without your hands
The cold wind does not get warm

Noisy street, close city
The sky turned black, will disappear into nowhere
Noisy street, while at a great price
The sky turned black, squeeze whiskey stronger

Turn around ...
Turn around, I did not get up without your hands
Not hear the heartbeat
Turn around, I did not get up without your hands
The cold wind does not get warm
Turn around ...

Hey All

I just wanted to apologize in advance for missing half of the show tonight - mandatory meeting.

Anyway, Allie will keep it real for the first hour and I'll come play for the second.

Hope everyone's made it through the week alright!

Also, this Incredulous Kristy meme basically sums up my week:

Thank you, Kim, from whatclaudiawore. Incredulous Kristy makes bad feelings good.

Mistakes are the portals of discovery.

~ James Joyce

OH HI THERE!

HI THERE!!!!

I apologize profusely for not utilizing this blog before now, but I'd like any possible readers of this post to know that that's all in the past. Today marks the first day of a new era in my life. To celebrate this new era, let's take a look at a fun video! Is it in any way related to music, you ask? No. No it is not. I only post it here because I believe that you will benefit greatly from watching it.

Seriously. Watch it. It's only 38 seconds long. I'm only stealing 38 seconds of your precious time.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oO9Y790H3pA

Also remember to listen to the show tonight from 8-10! Fantastic times will be had by all!

Thanks for reading,
Allie

PROPAGANDA

So. We haven't done that much advertising this week*, but our second show is still tomorrow night 8-10 (central) at wlfm.net. The website has not been updated in two years, but no worries - it should be all shiny and new and updated and reformatted in about a month. So, for the time being, ignore all the info from 2009 and enjoy the show!

We will have propaganda sometime in the near future. Allie and I have joined Print-Making Club and we will be making many a print.

Also, I'm rethinking the name Death & Taxes for the show. It doesn't seem very accessible. Even though Allie and I get to be DJs Death (Allie) and Taxes (Me) if we do use that name. That would be kind of cool. Anyway. Undecided. Suggestions?

And, as you can see, I'm working a bit on reformatting the blog.

Keep being awesome. We love you listeners!

*We haven't done any advertising this week...

You've All Already Seen This Video

I'm posting it anyway.

I was underwhelmed. But then again, I'm underwhelmed by Sleigh Bells.

Sleigh Bells "Infinity Guitars" from Phil Pinto on Vimeo.

Their songs are catchy, but I really don't understand the hype.

All of my music is gone.

Dumb, dumb, dumb computer with it's dumb dumb absent amount of disc space left.

Ugh. Technology. I can't deal with it.

WHERE DID IT ALL GO???

I must now begin a quest to discover the location of 82 Gigs of music. So not the drama*.

Oh, Music... where did you go?*

*I should not post at 3 a.m., it makes me reference disney shows that probably are no longer airing.
*My music is actually probably located on my hard drive 5 feet away, but I'm too lazy and tired and watching British sit coms to get up and find out.

NEXT SHOW(s)!

Annnnnd we officially have a show time!

Worst Song of the Week - Pt. 1

Let's not forget our special feature "Worst Song of the Week"! I'd first like to state that our "Worst Songs of the Week" are picked lovingly. We are not singling them out just to make fun of them, but to appreciate their... attitude? effort?

Or, in this case wonder how they ever came to be.

This week's song features Countess LuAnn de Lesseps (from The Real Housewives of New York). In the show I don't particualarly like Countess LuAnn - I'm more of a Bethenny fan, myself. But I'm *ok* with The Countess - just for making this ridiculous song. How bizarre is it that just anyone can release a single. My main questions for this song are: What was she thinking? Does she think this video actually makes her classy? I know she's all about teaching "class", but I feel like writing books should remain the proper venue for that, in Countess LuAnn's case. Why, Why, would she ever agree to do this? I'm also guessing this song was made post-divorce, because I don't think The Count would approve of it.

Here is the music video, for your viewing pleasure - I'm sure many a question of your own will arise after watching it...

We've got tons of great brand new music, and some 80's jams. It'll be great! Now, if only we could order a pizza to be delivered to the station...

Karen Elson - The Truth is in the Dirt

So last night Karen Elson released a video on Vanity Fair (dot) com for her song "The Truth is in the Dirt" and if you haven't seen it yet, I highly suggest you go over and take a look. The video fits the song perfectly. It's haunting, ethereal, with costumes reminiscent of the 20's and 30's with just the right amount of rock and roll. It has artistic features of a silent film but taking a distinctly different path than M. Ward and Zooey took in "Thieves" (youtube).

It's truly a lovely video. I still don't have the Karen Elson album yet, but now I want it even more!
